ABOUT MARFA MONTESSORI

Marfa Montessori was founded in 2010 as a private, not-for-profit preschool in Marfa, Texas. In the fall of 2013, Marfa Montessori teamed up with Marfa ISD (Marfa's local public school) with an innovative plan for the future. Now, the recognized success of Montessori education is freely available to all children in Marfa, beginning as young as 3 years old. The program currently serves nearly 45 three to five year olds in a newly renovated space at 300 N. Gonzales Street. Ms. Emily Steriti is the Lead Teacher supported by three assistant teachers. A search continues for a second Lead Teacher.

The Montessori Preschool and Kindergarten program at Marfa ISD is a mixed-age classroom that uses hands-on, multi-sensory approaches that respect and follow each child's individual development. Beginning in the fall of 2015, Marfa ISD will offer the Montessori curriculum to a combined classroom of 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders under the direction of Lead Teacher Cheri Aguero.

Marfa Montessori, the non-profit, remains a separate 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to enhance and support, through finance and philosophy, the implementation of a genuine Montessori practice at Marfa ISD. Marfa ISD is currently accepting applicants for licensed Montessori Teachers. Applicants must be Montessori certified. State teaching certification a plus. Includes all public school benefits. Full Time. EOE.
